Something or somebody is molding your life. Whether its your favorite author, your best friend, or your television and/or internet habits, something is discipling you. Your ideas are constantly evolving. Your perceptions of the world are constantly changing. Influence is being exerted in your direction and you, intentionally or unintentionally, are struggling with those ideas and philosophies and making decisions about their validity and importance to your life. The question is not whether you are being discipled, but who are you allowing to disciple you?
As people of faith we need to choose those who disciple us on purpose. We need to seek our mentors and leaders who can assist us in becoming more like Jesus in our daily lives. Below, Alan Hirsch reminds us that sometimes we accidentally let the wrong things disciple us:
