The Difference Between Success and Significance.
“Can I live a life that matters?”

John 21:3-19; Acts 1:3-8

This week three important icons of my youth died:
• Ed McMahon—now I’ll never win the Publisher’s Clearning House Giveaway!
• Farrah Fawcett—the only poster I had on my wall as a teenager.
• Michael Jackson—the pop king that made even white guys think they could dance.

When people who were your idols from childhood die it makes you realize something, you are next!
“Can I live a life that matters?”

There are two ways to face the future:
With apprehension (n) anticipation of adversity or misfortune; suspicion or fear of future trouble or evil. Characteristics:

Quit Trying
a. Anxiety—overwhelming worry.
b. Aggressiveness.
c. Apathy

Start Dying
d. Whither
e. Withdraw
f. Waste your time and talents.

With anticipation: expectation or hope. God has a plan 4 u!
a. Life of Growth—every day brings a new challenge
b. Life of Grace—every day is a gift from God.

Peter had given into the “I am going fishing” syndrome.

In response Christ gives him a call and then given a challenge.

The Call
Luke 15:4 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
• Feed my sheep.
• Take care of my sheep.
• Tend my sheep.
Whose sheep? ______________________

The Challenge
• Follow me.
• You must follow me!
Follow who? _______________________

Theory of 1000 Marbles:
Average person lives about 75 years.
75 X 52 = 3,900 Saturdays in your lifetime
By the age 55 you have spent 2,800 Saturdays—1,000 left.
Theory of a Thousand Marbles
Average Person Lives 75 Years
75 Years X 52 Weeks = 3,900 Weeks
By age 55 you only have 1,000 Marbles left..

Search me, God, and help me realize what is keeping me from being the person you desire for me to be.
Psalm 139: 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me,and lead me in the way everlasting.

Transform me from the inside to be the person You want me to be.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Prepare me to receive instruction, guidance and direction as I seek to follow you completely.
1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Align my heart with Your heart, my will with Your will.
Jeremiah 29:11” For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

Use me as Your hands and feet in this world to share the gospel, serve others and make Your love known to a hurting world.
Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Lead me clearly so that I can reflect the love and forgiveness given to me by the sacrifice of Jesus to all that I meet.
Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Get Your ZAG on!
